Toolbars
A toolbar contains buttons that allow you to perform tasks more quickly. When you click a button, that button immediately performs that task.

Each button has a picture to remind you of the function of that button's function. You can also move your mouse directly over a button, and after a second, the function of the button will appear. You can customize or add additional tool bars.

If you hold your mouse pointer over a button for a few seconds, a screen tip or button name appears below the button.

The most commonly used toolbars include:

    Standard toolbar
This contains different buttons. When you click a button, Word performs a specific task.

    Format toolbar
This toolbar contains all buttons necessary for formatting your document.

These toolbars are locked, or docked, into place on the top edge of the Word screen. Additional toolbars called floating toolbars appear automatically as needed. These are not locked into place. You can always rearrange the location and order of any toolbar.
